Do any of the glp1 drugs have any effect on Metformin? I’m considering going on Mounjaro

Mounjaro & Metformin actually work well together. Metformin on it's own lowers glucose production by the liver & improves insulin sensitvity. Mounjaro (which is a GLP-1 agonist), increases insulin release when glucose is high. It slows down gastric emptying & promotes significant weight loss. Their additive effect lowers your A1c. The side effects are what you should be mindful of. They can both cause nausea, diarrhea, bloating & upset stomach. Starting Mounjaro while already taking metformin may temporarily worsen these symptoms, especially if you're on immediate-release metformin. There's low risk of hypoglycemia from using both. However, the risk becomes higher when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas (glipizide, glyburide, glimepiride)
